[auscope-geosciml] EarthMaterial package [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

I like the idea of having other domains being able to link to the
EarthMaterial packages, so as long as it doesn't break anything else it
gets my support.
Cheers

Ignore my last email – my package update didn’t go up to the container
level – so it’s the same pattern and I fully agree it makes sense in this
context to do this.

Rob – Physical Props is already out, so moving EarthMaterial out as well
is a Good Thing.
GeoSciML Core is ‘core concepts of historical geology’.
It appears that we can disentangle materials enough from that to package
it separately.
I think this is worthwhile, as there is the potential for other models for
materials, developed for subtly different purposes (e.g. geotechnics)
which could then be linked to the GeoSciML core without trampling on a
piece of it.

So EarthMaterial is a component of GeoSciML-core? The names sound strange
in this context – “core” in that sense is sort of a collection of
elaborated sub-domains?
The dependencies don’t look like it would be that easy to take it out –
its dependent on PhysicalProperties for example
Would need to refactor the notes on GeoSciML core as well:
“The GeoSciML-Core schema specifies a set of feature-types describing core
geoscience information, including geologic units, structures, earth
materials, relations between geologic features, and spatial geometries
that represent geologic features on maps.”

Hi all,
The v3 RC2 model is on the verge of schema generation.
Simon mentioned in passing to me that we might consider extracting the
EarthMaterial leaf package out of the quite large GeoSciML-Core package
and into its own Application Schema.
As far as I can see, this would not introduce any dependency problems
(GeoSciML-Core schema would just import the EarthMaterial schema), and it
would be a fairly simple thing to implement even at this late stage in v3
RC2.
Could I get feedback from everyone about whether they think this is a good
idea.
Thanks,
Ollie
