[GeoSciML] R: FW: 2013 CGI-IWG meeting date &location[SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi Tim all,
having our CGI Council meeting in connection with 1G TWGs (technical and
OMG) + CGI-IWG meeting would be very beneficiary for many of us. And since
VSEGEI has recently joint the 1G club of service providers it could be seen
as a CGI positive recognition of VSEGEI achievement...
I would be in favour of this solution, providing that VSEGEI agrees.
Cheers
Robert

Can I just remind everyone that the “???
VSEGEI, St. Petersburg (in connection with
which OneG meeting?)
offer – the date for which was for US to get back to them on to propose but
‘probably in approx. a year’s time from the Brisbane conference as usual’
i.e. we meet approx. once a year,
was a very formal genuine offer not just to the Onegeology TWG but to the
GeoSciML work and the related dictionary work as it was apparent in Brisbane
that they – the Russian Federation - were planning to become major users of
GeoScIMl and users/contributors to the dictionaries.
It is also worth pointing out that the cgi council meetings have not often
been at the same time as the GeoSciMl/OneGeology TWG meetings in practice –
and have not been harmed by this.
I suggest to help Kristine that CGI-IWG needs to contact VSEGEI again with a
proposed date for our next meeting – see if that gels and then Kristine can
decide if she wants to organise the cgi council there also or at another
time.
Regards
Tim

Hi Ollie,
I have just sand an email where I suggest also the INSPIRE Conference 2013
in Florence Italy 23-27 June 2013; I think most of European people will come
in. You have to consider that I’m one of the Organization committee.
Cheers,
Carlo

Hi Ollie, hi all,
Also for the CGI Council the January and March meetings are too early (EGU
could be a little too early, too) and AGU seems a little late (1,5 years
after the Brisbane meeting!). We usually meet in mid year (in order to have
time to accomplish all our tasks by then ;-)).
According to the many mails sent, the list below seem to be the status for
the CGI Council meeting in 2013:
April Vienna
EGU
Sep
2-6
Madrid, Spain
IAMG
Sep
Ghana
GIRAF
Sep
17-21
Nottingham, UK
FOSS4G
Oct
27-30
Denver, USA
GSA
Dec
3-7
San Francisco, USA
AGU
End June/July Hannover
Mid year EU-JRC, Ispra, Italy
??? VSEGEI, St. Petersburg
(in connection with which OneG meeting?)
By the way, we can also always meet in Paris at the Commission of the
Geological Map of the World Bureau in Quartier Latin.
We will soon set up a doodle, - please let us know by 4. October if you
suggest any other meeting places, optimally opportunistically linked with a
geoinformation event useful for CGI Council and IWG members.
Best wishes,
Kristine

Hi Ollie,
I would have thought that the IWG will need to link to an OGC meeting once
the GeoSciML SWG gets going, although the January and March meetings are a
bit too early. OGC doesn’t seem to have determined its summer/autumn
meetings yet but one of those (which are likely to be in either Europe or
North America as the March one is in Abu Dhabi) would seem best.

Hi all GeoSciML, OneGeology, and CGI folk,
The CGI are trying to figure out dates and places for their 2013 meeting.
As usual we want to coordinate with any IWG, OneGeology, etc meetings to
minimise travel. We have had verbal offers of St Petersburg for
OneGeology/IWG from Grigory Brekhov (no date attached), Hannover in July
from Kristine, and Ispra (Italy, no date attached) from Tomas, but I'd like
to see what might work with other events. Here's a list of events that we
might be able to work with (please add any more you know of to the list and
circulate):
Jan
14-18
Redlands, USA
OGC TC (new GeoSciML SWG)
Mar
17-21
Abu Dhabi, UAE
OGC TC
April
7-12
Vienna, Austria
EGU
Sep
2-6
Madrid, Spain
IAMG
Sep
Ghana
GIRAF
Sep
17-21
Nottingham, UK
FOSS4G
Oct
27-30
Denver, USA
GSA
Dec
3-7
San Francisco, USA
AGU
The late September dates are bad for me, but otherwise Europe in April or
late August/early Sept, or USA in October work for me.
Cheers,
Ollie
