Hi all,

Does anyone have a high resolution copy of the IUGS and CGI logos (ie, images for printing on large posters)?

Thanks,
Ollie

Ollie
Sorry, I don't have anything hi-res. Kathryn was going to ask our graphics team if they have any, but I've just had a quick look in their archive myself and can't see anything.
Debbie, any ideas?
Gemma

Hi Gemma, Kathryn,

Do you have high resolution digital copies of the IUGS and CGI logos/banners that you could send me? The only images that I have are the ones on the website, and they are not very good resolution for displaying in large posters.

Cheers,
Ollie

Hi Kristine

First job is decide the new email address for CGI that you want people to use, it is currently cgisecretariat at bgs.ac.uk<mailto:cgisecretariat at bgs.ac.uk> which obviously will need changing so that you and Susanna receive the emails then get this changed on the website.

The amount of work the Secretariat Admin has is very much dependant on how active the council is. On occasions it was very busy, but of late it wasn't!

Register new members, log on member spreadsheet (attached - version myself and Ollie worked on at end Aug), allocate a member number and send out the registration email to them (see attached);
Checking the in box for any other emails and either answering them or passing onto the Chair and/or Sec General for response;
Send out ad hoc emails to members as requested from the Council;
Request updates to the website eg if the members map needed updating with a new country, add on any new events, Council meeting documents adding to website, etc;
Annual report to IUGS - Ian wrote the bulk of it then Council sent through various reports for including and my role was to collate it all, make it all look like one document not ten and then send it off to IUGS.

That is about it really.
Kathryn

Dear Richard,

Thank you very much for the information and for the BGS continuing hosting the CGI's web site.
About the secretariat's role - thank you also for letting us that know. As newly appointed CGI Secretary General I will discuss this within BGR. Can Kathryn please inform us what the work will actually involve. You e.g. have the advantage of speaking English fluently, my PA would need much more time for mails etc in English (I am copying her in: Susanna Kösterke).

Kind regards,

Kristine

Hi Ollie

I can confirm that BGS is happy to continue hosting the website and providing web editorial services for the CGI on the assumption that the work required continues at roughly similar levels to what we've handled over recent years. Publishing new content isn't too time-consuming but please let us know if any major overhauls to layout and design are envisaged.

Re the secretariat role (which has been done by Kathryn Bull in recent years) I think it makes a lot of sense for CGI if in future this is done in the same organisation as the chair or secretary general. One of the reasons it worked well here was that Kathryn was Ian Jackson's PA for BGS business, and I believe a similar arrangement would continue to work well. So BGS will not be continuing to provide the CGI secretariat.

I hope this is acceptable.

Regards

Richard

Hi Kathryn and Richard,

A significant talking point of the recent CGI council meeting was the maintenance of the CGI website, which is currently hosted and maintained by BGS. I was appointed as CGI website content manager at the Brisbane meeting, and we are currently compiling some significant changes to the website.

Before we proceed with those changes, Kristine was tasked in Brisbane to ask you at BGS a couple of questions, but she is on holidays now, so here they are:

 * Is BGS prepared to continue hosting the CGI website into the future?
 * Is BGS prepared to continue to provide website editing services for the CGI website when required by CGI?
If the answer to either of these questions is "no", then CGI will have to move to a different arrangement for website hosting and/or distributed web site editing as soon as possible.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,
Ollie
